A Last Cup
J. Tarwood

(After Jiménez)

Despite inexpressible heavens,
soul’s already a sun
setting up high beauty
twilight will shadow.

Light collects itself
into a calm everlasting needle,
& soul finishes up
just the same.

J. Tarwood has published poems in magazines ranging from American Poetry Review to Visions, and he has published two books, The Cats in Zanzibar and Grand Detour.  After many years in East Africa and the Middle East, he lived in Colombia for ten years, and now, eleven years later, he continues to reside in the Middle East.
